Dr. Susie Watkins
Dr. Susie Watkins joined our practice in January 2011 after working for five years in public health dentistry. She graduated in 2005 with honors from the University of Maryland Dental School and completed a General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Her undergraduate education was at Wake Forest University where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Health in Exercise Science.
Dr. Watkins grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was interested in medicine from a young age. She decided to pursue dentistry when she worked as a dental assistant after finishing her undergraduate degree. As an assistant, she learned that she loved the combination of the art and science of dentistry as well as the one-on-one patient care unique to dentistry.
It is the direct patient care that most excites her as a healthcare provider, and she strives to treat everyone using the Golden Rule principle. As a senior in dental school, she was honored to receive the “Excellence in Patient Care Award.” After finishing residency, Dr. Watkins joined the Indian Health Service in Yakima, Washington, where she worked for four years providing comprehensive and emergency dentistry. Her family moved to Eugene and joined the Duck Nation upon her husband’s matriculation into architecture school at the UO.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Watkins most enjoys spending time with her husband Chris and their two young children. In the past, she has been a member of the National Ski Patrol and Young Life Volunteer, however, these days she is likely to be found running and hiking, doing kids' craft projects, and reading books that rhyme.
